Where to Park at West Lake Elementary

On average, West Lake Elementary has about 900 students on campus on weekdays all year long except for holidays, the week of July 4th and during the holiday break in December/January. Trying to find a place to park to enter the school, whether for "just a minute" or for the day, is not an easy task. While it would be nice to have an abundance of front row parking spaces like at the mall, the fact of the matter is, premium parking is limited! Please keep in mind that the safety of over 1,200 students, their parents, and other visitors are our primary concern as you visit our campus.

Before You Park

If you are coming to volunteer at the school, please go through carpool to drop off your children only in the carpool zone at the cafeteria entrance on the north side of the building. Then, park and enter the building at the door on the far left under the awning. Visitors are always welcome. However, for security reasons we ask that you sign in at the office and receive a visitor's badge to wear until you sign out. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

Where to Park

First choice for anyone visiting West Lake Elementary is the Front Circle beyond the yellow curb. Please observe the "No Parking" signs where the curbs are yellow. Those areas are reserved for visibility and safety, loading and unloading buses or for emergency vehicles only. Please do not park in the bus loading and unloading zone since buses load and unload students in that area throughout the day. We know you would want emergency responders to have the quickest access to your children, so please do not park in the loading and unloading zone even for "just a minute" since we cannot anticipate when emergency vehicles might be needed.

Second choice for parking if there is no available space in the Front Circle is at the bottom of the hill at the west end of the building in the staff parking lot. During normal school days, that parking lot usually has a number of open parking spaces. To ensure the safety of students and faculty, the doors are locked from the outside at all times. Therefore, we ask that you walk up to the front entrance of the building from the bottom of the hill alongside carpool. Our dream is to have a sidewalk beside the carpool line.

Third choice for parking is next to the curb behind the white line across Optimist Farm Road. We suggest that you choose this option last since it is the least safe and the busiest of roads. Please be extra cautious if you choose to park there.

Where to AVOID Parking

• Do not park in the bus loading and unloading zone in the front circle in front of West Lake Elementary since buses load and unload students in that area throughout the day.
• Do not park in the bus loading and unloading loop between West Lake Elementary and West Lake Middle School.
• Do not park in the parking lot between West Lake Elementary and West Lake Middle School since it is reserved for faculty and staff.
• Do not park along Optimist Farm Road on the school side of the street. It blocks the view of traffic for those who are exiting the parking lot from either entrance and puts people at risk!
